All gypsum panels are fire resistant that are produced with different formulas for special functions. They also have different thicknesses. Our special products are examples of this. Here, we will focus on panels that are 1/2 inches (12 mm) or 5/8 inches (16 mm) thick and 48 inches (1.2 m) wide.
In Type X products, it is the only fiberglass additive that gives the panel moderate fire resistance.
But in type C products, in gypsum core, in addition to glass fibers, special additives are used to increase the fire resistance of the panel so that its resistance is much higher than type X.
Keep in mind that adding any kind of modifier during production can cause unwanted changes in other properties of the panel, such as reduced strength or problems with paper adhesion. Therefore, be sure to use these additives in consultation with our experts.
The ASTM C1396 product standard can be used for fire resistant gypsum panels.
